Blog Tour: My Time in the Affair

~Mischa~

I made a conscious decision to cheat on my husband.

Now, before you judge me, hear my story. Hear how much I'm like you, how similar my thoughts are to your own. Yes, I'm a horrible person. Yes, I've done horrible things. Yes, I don't deserve forgiveness. Yes, bad things happened because of my actions.

But I'm willing to bet I've done things that maybe, just maybe, you have thought of doing.

Maybe, just maybe, you're not as innocent as you'd like to think.

Or maybe I'm not so guilty ...

WARNING: This book involves CHEATING. The word AFFAIR is in the title. The main character has an AFFAIR. In the synopsis (directly above), she states that she intentionally has an AFFAIR. If you don't like CHEATING, then you have been VERY WELL warned. Also, this book is primarily written in the third-person narrative.

This book had a small buzz going on FB amongst some fellow bloggers and what they were posting peaked my interest. It definitely sounded like my type of read! So, when I saw a blog tour sign up, I jumped at the chance to get my hands on this book!

It ended up being a mixed bag for me. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it. I read LOTS of books that contain cheating, affairs, love triangles, etc. I think in order for them to work for me, I need that moment. The one where the relationship takes a turn and you can see it headed towards destruction.

I didn't get that here.

All I really knew about Mischa is that she was unhappily married to her best friend and that had decided she wanted to have an affair. There was no build up of her character to make me truly understand her sudden decision. Where was that moment in her marriage that things started to change? (And not getting laid is not a good enough reason in my opinion!)

I did love the mystery element of the storyline. And even though j was not 100% on board with the whole affair thing, I did love her relationship with Tal. Their connection was intense and I could easily see why she fell for him. that is where the true story was and it almost felt like her being married was just added for the drama factor.

Overall, an okay and quick read if you can overlook the cheating aspect.

“Where are we going?” she breathed when she realized they weren't heading out of the hotel.
Tal didn't answer. They were heading towards a bank of elevators, and one had just opened up, depositing a group of people into the lobby. He picked up his pace, practically dragging her into the lift.
He let go of her and she lost her balance, stumbling into a corner. By the time she righted herself, he'd pressed a floor button. When she turned around, he was back up against her, flattening her against the wall. She held her breath, staring up at him. It was the best lighting she'd seen him – he really did have super dark eyes. Black whirlpools, intense as they swallowed her whole.
I never stood a chance.
“God, you tasted good,” he groaned, lowering his mouth to her neck.
“Tal … we can't … I'm …,” she struggled for air. For thought.
“In another country, looking for something you aren't getting at home,” he finished for her as his hands swept over her hips.
Am I that transparent?
“That doesn't mean I'm going to -,” she ended in a gasp when his hands slid down to her butt and gripped her, hard.
“Yes, it does.”
“No, I'm not -,”
“Yes, you are.”
“Please,” she whined. He chuckled.
“You'll be saying that a lot more tonight.”
When his hands moved up to her breasts, she felt like she was going to jump right out of her skin – she actually jerked to the side involuntarily, her body so shocked by the contact. She started shivering and his hands stopped moving.
“My husband is the only one who's touched me like this in eight years,” she whispered. There was a long pause.
“I'm willing to bet it's been a long time since anyone has touched you like this, period,” Tal called her out as the pressure from his hands increased, pushing her breasts together.
Correct.
“How do you know these things? How do you know me?” she asked. He finally lifted his head, looking down at her.
“I'm a very observant person, Mischa,” he sounded serious.
She felt like shit.
“I don't know how to be this kind of woman,” she said, her voice small. He chuckled.

Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ..., forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do
not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

Promo Post: Cranberry Inn Series by Beth Ehemann

Four years ago, my
dreams were shattered in an instant.
I tried to pick up
the pieces and glue them back together the best I knew how, but something was
always missing.
A father for my two
girls.
But then, Brody
Murphy landed on my doorstep, literally. He was a carefree, playful hockey
player who barged into my life and messed with my head. He left me more
confused than I had ever been.
What if the one thing
I thought I needed was the only thing holding me back?

“Shit!” The clock on my truck dashboard read 6:57.
Cutting it a little close, Murphy. Don’t blow it.
I rang the doorbell. Sophia opened the door, her face contorted with confusion.
“Hi, Ms. Jensen. I’m here to pick up Kacie.”
She giggled and stepped back. “Oh, you’re adorable. Come in, Brody.”
“These are for you.” I handed her a small bouquet of tulips.
“They are beautiful, thank you.” She furrowed her brow at me, still trying to figure everything out. “Hang on, I’ll get Kacie.”
She disappeared around the corner and I stayed in the foyer, waiting for my … friend. Lucy and Piper came tearing toward me from the back family room.
“Brody, are you sick?” asked Piper.
“Yeah, do you have a fever?” Lucy asked, tugging on my shirt.
I bent down to her level as she felt my forehead. “Nope, not sick. Why?”
They looked at each other and shrugged.
“Mom was on the phone with Auntie Alexa and she said you were hot. If you’re hot, you have a fever. Do you need medicine?” Lucy continued the inquest.
“She said I was hot, huh? Interesting. I promise you, kiddo, I’m not sick, but thanks for checking on me.”
I held my hand up and they each high-fived me before they ran off.

Kacie came around the corner and my mouth started salivating. She had on a white, lacy tank top and khaki shorts that showed off more of her legs than I had seen before. Her hair was pulled up in a messy bun with a few random pieces falling onto her collarbone. The closer she got, the more her green eyes sparkled. She looked simple, yet incredibly sexy. I was going to need a fucking straight jacket to keep my hands off of her all night.

Four years ago, my
dreams were shattered in an instant.
Three months ago, I
found something I haven’t had in years.
Hope.

That hope came in the form of a sexy, carefree hockey player named Brody
Murphy. He swooped in and won me over with his big heart and the way he cared
for me…and my girls. When they look at him, they see the father they've never
had.

Now, my past and

present are colliding and the outcome might just be too much for me to bear.
Can I make the right decision when I’ve spent my whole life making the wrong
ones?

“Why not? Do you ever want to be a stay-at-home mom?” Brody asked.
“I don’t know. After him, I swore to myself that I would never depend on a man again. It was embarrassing to move back home and rely on my mom to feed and take care of us.”
spun to face him, nearly dropping the eggs that were in my hand. “What?”
“Down the road, when there are dozens of little Brodys running around the house, do you want to be home with us?”
“Dozens of little Brodys?” I chuckled.
“Why not?” He grinned.
“Uh, I can think of a few reasons. My poor uterus for one.” I poked him in the chest.
“Okay, fine. Not a dozen, but at least like… six.” He wiggled his eyebrows. “After that, we can just practice—a lot.”
“I’m definitely down for the practicing.” I batted my eyes at him. “And what do you mean at home with us? You’ll be traveling most of the time.”
“Yeah, but not forever. Eventually I’ll retire and do the full-time dad thing.”
Crossing my arms over my chest, I cocked my head to the side and looked at him skeptically. “Since when does staying home with kids all day interest you?”
He looked over at the girls, who were watching a movie in the living room, and shrugged. “Since them.”

Five years ago, my dreams were shattered in an instant.

One year ago, a horrible rainstorm flooded a bridge in town, leaving us with an Inn full of
stranded travelers. Turns out one of those travelers would give me a whole new
set of dreams, ones I never thought possible. Brody Murphy spent the last year
teaching me what it was like to live, and more importantly love, again.

Two days ago, he asked me to marry him, and if I’d said yes any faster, I would have interrupted the most romantic proposal ever offered. I can’t wait to marry him and spend
the rest of our lives spoiling our Twinkies.

One year from now I’ll be Mrs. Kacie Murphy, assuming everything goes nice and smooth.

“Oh, I know and it’s okay. I couldn’t care less what the public or whoever thinks of our wedding. It’s for us, you and me, and that’s all that matters.”

“I’m glad you feel that way.” He bent his leg under him and turned to face me. “I had a thought while I was driving home.”
I rolled my eyes. “I’m not eloping.”

“No, no. I know that. But you’re right… about not letting them have our wedding, the paparazzi and leeches who thought it was okay to post a picture of the girls in the newspaper. I don’t want them having any part in our day, so I was thinking, what if we had the ceremony and the reception in my parents’ barn?”

My mouth fell open as he held his hand up. “Don’t freak. Just hear me out. I know it’s a crappy rundown barn, but I was thinking how cool it might look if we hung thousands of little white lights or even candles everywhere, though we don’t want to burn it down, but you get what I’m saying,” he rambled, barely taking a breath. “I can hire a company to come in and clean it up. We’ll rent some tables and chairs and whatever other crap you need for a wedding. Anything you want, Kacie. The sky’s the limit. I just want you to be—”

I put my hand over his mouth to stop the adorable, incoherent sentences that were tumbling out of his mouth.

When he stopped talking against my hand, I lowered it and scooted forward, cupping his face in my hands. I looked him straight in the eye. “Brody, I think that’s the best idea I have ever heard.”

PROLOGUE
Vaughn
FUNNY HOW LIFE plays practical jokes.

The past few days—that had to be a fucking joke, right?

There was no logical answer that would make sense to what I’d seen, heard, and lived the past seventy-two hours.

My sister.

My best-friend and twin.

This was what she’d been living with? This was how she’d been treated?

This was what she wanted to return to?

Motherfucking why? Why would she ever want to return to this insanity?

We’d been raised in a broken home, chained to an empire that absorbed us right from birth. But we were kept safe, warm, and loved. We grew up together. We shared everything.

But now…I had no fucking clue who my sister was.

But then she came to me.

A woman I never knew existed.

The most stunning creature I’d ever seen.

Only she didn’t come to me on feet or wings of an angel. She rolled into my life and demanded my help.

And for better or for worse.

I helped her.

CHAPTER ONE
Nila
“LET ME GO!”

Daniel cackled like a mad hyena, his fingers stabbing into my bicep. Without breaking his stride, he stole me further away from the parlour and into the bowels of the house.

I didn’t want to go. I didn’t want to go anywhere with him.

“Take me back!” I squirmed, doing my best to return to Jethro.

He can’t be dead!

Just because he lay unmoving and bloody didn’t mean he’d left me behind.

That’s exactly what it means.

I shook my head, dislodging those awful thoughts. He’s alive. He had to be.

I couldn’t tolerate any other answer. I refused to live in a world where evil triumphed over good. That wasn’t right—life couldn’t be that cruel.

It’s always been that way.

My mind filled with images of my mother. My father’s desolation. My broken childhood. Evil had puppeteered us from day one. Why should now be any different?

He’s not dead!

I swallowed a sob.

Please don’t be dead…

I fought harder. “Let me see him. You can’t do this!”

Daniel cackled louder. “Keep begging, Weaver. Won’t do you any good.”

Blog Tour: Marrow by Tarryn Fisher

In the Bone there is a house.
In the house there is a girl.
In the girl there is a darkness.

Margo is not like other girls. She lives in a derelict neighborhood called the Bone, in a cursed house, with her cursed mother, who hasn't spoken to her in over two years. She lives her days feeling invisible. It’s not until she develops a friendship with her wheelchair-bound neighbor, Judah Grant, that things begin to change. When a neighborhood girl, seven-year-old Neveah Anthony, goes missing, Judah sets out to help Margo uncover what happened to her.

What Margo finds changes her, and with a new perspective on life, she’s determined to find evil and punish it–targeting rapists and child molesters, one by one.

But hunting evil is dangerous, and Margo risks losing everything, including her own soul.
Wow, once again Tarryn Fisher has completely violated my thoughts with her talent for mind fuckery.  Once you start reading a book written by this author there is just no stopping until you are done, even if it is into the early hours of the morning.  Then of course, everything you've just read is replaying in your head and you curse yourself for reading the book in first place because now you can't sleep.  But you just can't help it and every time Tarryn releases a new book you go through it all over again.  It's like having a baby and afterwards saying 'I'm never doing that again...' but as time passes you forget all the reasons why you said that and boom, you're knocked up again.   You know what you are in for yet you willingly go back for more.

I could completely imagine all of the characters who live in Wessex Street, they were so realistic, what was startling for me to realize is that, that whole neighborhood really does exist in a suburb in every town and city somewhere in the world.  That cycle that just keeps spinning around from generation to generation.  You can close your eyes and try to ignore it but it will still exist.

"We are all pretenders in life, finding a patch of humanity that we relate to, and then embrace it.  We come straight down the birth canal and our parents start telling us who to be, simply by being themselves."

Margo was such a fascinating person to read about and she so logically explains her reasons for doing things that are just so wrong and way beyond my moral compass, yet I found myself kind of agreeing with her logic at times.  That freaked me out a bit. The lack of human touch and emotion has hardened her heart and skin.  She just exists, devoid of the experiences that others take for granted.

I wanted Margo to be free of her demons and to realize her worth.  There are so many moments when she shows that genuine, protective side of herself to her friend Judah and children of the neighborhood.  She just doesn't know how to be Margo and fit into this world.

And at the end of this story I am still wondering what was actually true, how much of Margo's life was what she says it was.  Have I been blinded by what was the truth or what I wanted to believe was true?

I give this 5 WTF stars
