Blog Tour: STOP by Alison G. Bailey

Every life has a different path full of sharp turns, smooth curves, and steep drop offs.

Hollis Murphy has a plan—college, career, boyfriend, love, marriage, family. A predictable, normal life. She’s on track until an outside force causes her to crash and burn. They call it an accident, because that’s the only word they know to explain what happens to her. It helps everyone move on with their lives, except for Hollis. She holds on to the belief that she’s been targeted for a reason.

Risher Stevenson is intelligent, caring, sweet, and the hottest boy Hollis has ever laid eyes on. He fits perfectly into her original plan for a normal life. Everyone loves him.

Benton Daniels is intelligent, caring, sweet, and the bravest boy Hollis has ever met. He doesn’t fit into her life but gives it purpose and makes it extraordinary. Everyone hates him.

One is bullied. One is tormented. All are judged. How will it STOP?

"Wow, just wow, incredible story, 5+++ stars!!!" was my final status update on goodreads after I finished reading this book.  Well apart from the fact that the author is Alison freaking Bailey, the story was so damn good.  Original, unpredictable and kept me glued to my kindle until I was done.
Risher is no stranger to being with a beautiful girl but there is a big difference between the girls that throw themselves at him and girls like Hollis.  Hollis is a forever sort of girl, the girl you hang on to with everything you've got.  If only she saw herself the same way.
Hollis didn't want to go away to college, she was happy to stay home and get her qualifications under the safety of her family home.  Sometimes you have to be your own hero and step outside the comfort zone if things are ever going to change. Risher is the sort of guy you dream of, he is everything she has ever wanted but she always waiting for the bubble to pop, surely he is just too good to be true? Sometimes you can drown yourself in your own thoughts.
Then there is Benton.  He is one of the bravest people that Hollis has ever met.  Hollis has had her fair share of physical and emotional pain but she is in awe of Benton and his determination to live his life the way he intended. Hollis is his only real friend, she believes in him with no judgment of his past.  He hasn't someone like that in his life before and it means everything to him
Two boys, who have both influenced Hollis in her first year at college.  They inspire, encourage and care about her.  One of them will leave her heart broken and the other will make her whole.
I have always had a huge crush on Noah from the Perfect series but I am now torn between him and Risher.  Seriously, Risher is such a beautiful person inside and out.  I loved Benton too, he shared all his vulnerability and fears with Hollis and I love the connection that they built.
So a hugely emotional journey that touches on subjects in a way I have never seen done before and it was a joy to read such a beautifully written story.
I give this 5+++ stars.

“Name?” she said, impatiently.
I was so flustered that for a second I’d forgotten who I was. “Hollis Murphy.”
She scribbled something on a spreadsheet and handed me a packet with my name and the number two hundred ten typed out on the front sticker, which I assumed was my room number.
In a flat bored voice, she said, “Everything you need to know is in the packet. Should you have any additional questions or needs after reading the information, please ask your RA. Have a productive semester. Next!”
Clutching the envelope to my chest, my gaze shifted back down, and I walked quickly out of the office.
As I turned the corner, a loud deep woot! jerked my attention down the hall. I took one step before crashing full force into something solid and warm. Stumbling back, I dropped the envelope. Once my balance returned, my eyes focused on a gray T-shirt with cut off sleeves, stretched across broad shoulders. When I glanced down in search of my envelope, I couldn’t help but spot the narrow hips and round ass covered in black basketball shorts. As I squatted to pick up the envelope, a tanned forearm came into view. My gaze roamed up to find the arm was covered in bulging muscles.
“Oh god, I’m so . . . sorry,” I stammered, my cheeks heating with embarrassment.
“Here ya go,” a deep voice said.
Reaching for the envelope, my gaze inadvertently shot up to the warmest green eyes ever created. His dark brown hair was cut short on the sides, longer on top, and tousled. The perfect amount of scuff peppered his strong jawline, with deep dimples framing a sexy lopsided smile. The air was immediately sucked from my lungs. He wasn’t just hot, he was boy band hot.
A deep chuckle drifted down before I realized he had stood up and was extending his hand to me.
Oh boy! I get to touch him.
I slipped my hand into his and felt an immediate jolt of electricity. The muscles in his arm twitched. He felt it too.
“Thank you,” I said, as he helped me up.
“I’m Risher Stevenson.”
He was actually introducing himself to me.
It had become a habit not to look directly at anyone, especially a stranger. I automatically angled my head down and to the left, to hide the messed-up side of my face. But those green eyes locked me in place.
“Hollis Murphy.”
“Nice to meet you Hollis Murphy.”
“Sorry again about running into you. I need to do a better job at watching where I’m going.”
The tip of his tongue slipped between his lips before they formed into a slight smirk. Just as he was about to speak, his name came barreling down the hallway.
Rish! Get your ass down here. We’ve got a ton of boxes to haul in.” A blond-haired guy was standing at the end of the hall.
“I gotta go finish helping my friends move in.”
I nodded.
Risher took three steps before turning back toward me. “Don’t do too good of a job.”
My eyebrows squished together in confusion.
“At watching where you’re going. I hate to think I won’t get rump bumped again.”
He winked before jogging away.
Sasquatched those shoulders, those hips, and that ass all the way down the hall.

Blog Tour: Secret by Kindle Alexander

Title: Secret
Author: Kindle Alexander
Genre: M/M Romance
Release: June 9, 2015

Tristan Wilder, self-made millionaire and devastatingly handsome CEO of Wilder-Nation is on the verge of a very lucrative buyout. With tough negotiations ahead, he's armed with his acquisition pitch, ready to launch the deal of a lifetime. There’s just one glitch. The last thing he expects is to fall for the hot business owner he's trying to sway.

Dylan Reeves, computer science engineer and founder of the very successful social media site, Secret, is faced with a life-altering decision. A devoted family man with three kids and a wife, Dylan has been living a secret for years. Fiercely loyal to his convictions, his boundaries blur after meeting the striking owner of the corporation interested in acquiring his company. For the first time in his life, reckless desire consumes him when the gorgeous computer mogul makes an offer he can't refuse.

Wow, this was such a fantastic story. It had all the components I love in a good book and had me feeling all sort of emotions all at once.  I think that what I loved about it most is that it was so real.  I truly believed that this was an actual situation and I'm guessing that it is not an uncommon one either.

I also felt like I could relate to Teri & Dylan on a personal level, in that my husband and I had our children at a young age too and we are kind of at the same life stage as them.  You do give up a lot of your youth when you choose to be young parents and before you know it you are still relatively young and your home is now an 'empty nest.'  It can be quite an exciting time in your life and for others a time for changes.

Dylan and Teri are incredible parents who have raised three amazing, level headed kids.  They have both put their family first, in every way and never compromised their happy unit. They both have secrets though, they have been honest with each other but kept a façade of sorts up for everyone else.  You know that saying 'nobody else knows what is going on in a relationship except for the two people in it.'  That could not be truer for Dylan and Teri.

'He'd spent so much time focusing on his family and hiding behind them, he hadn't thought about himself, hadn't made plans for the rest of his life.'

Tristan Wilder is an openly gay, successful, self made businessman.  Meeting Dylan Reeves is an experience he will never forget.  Apart from the fact that Dylan is a very handsome man and very easy on the eye, there is just something about him that has Tristan all tied up in knots.  As cheesy as this sounds, I really think that meeting Dylan made Tristan want to be a better person, someone he aspired to be like.

I loved the honesty and vulnerability that came out of Dylan when he was faced with confronting his truth.  It was so real and sweet. He wears his heart and emotions on his sleeve.  When he loves, he does so with everything that he is and it is just so beautiful.  I was in awe of Teri and their relationship.  She is his confidant and greatest strength.  An amazing woman.

I was completely caught up in this wonderful and could not stop smiling for hours after I finished it.  Loved this!

I give this 5 stars.

Part 5

Dylan stared up at the rotating blades on the ceiling fan, one arm tucked behind his head, Chloe’s Barney & Friends blanket covering at least part of his body. He’d slept on this sofa more times than he could count. Except this time, sleep hadn’t come. The dread and worry weighing on him was just too strong.

He’d waited, hoping Teri would come back out and finish their conversation. She hadn’t. Now he was six hours into his confession and all he could do was sit there and stew, all sorts of scenarios playing out in his head. He’d trusted her with one of the most intimate details of his life. Would she throw a fit, tell everyone in their lives what he’d just confessed? He hoped not. This not knowing, not confronting it was more stressful than the confession itself.

He heard Cate stirring. She was starting to sleep through the night. She’d made almost seven hours this time. He pushed the blanket to the side and stood. After making his way to the kitchen and after a few minutes of preparation, he started warming her bottle. He was testing the warmth of the formula just as Teri came around the corner, holding a fussing baby in her arms. His wife looked to be in about the same condition he was. He hated that he’d caused all this undue stress, especially on Teri.

He maneuvered Cate out of her arms and made his way across the room. He took a seat on the sofa. “You go to sleep, I’ll feed her.”

Teri didn’t listen, she never did. She came and sat on the other side of the sofa facing him. “I can’t sleep.”

“Me either. I’m sorry for everything I dumped on you tonight.”

“Me too, but it all starting to make sense now. More sense than anything else.” He let that go, not wanting any more of an explanation from her. He didn’t want to talk about his sexual orientation. He was on unsteady ground. It was hard enough to acknowledge it himself.

“I’d be interested in going to law school,” she said quietly. “I always wanted to do that, but I can’t manage the kids and work and go to school like that. It’s too hard.”

“You don’t have to do it by yourself. I’ll always be here for you and the kids.” Those words were the truth and he meant them from the bottom of his heart.

“I just feel bad for them. They didn’t ask to be brought into this world. You aren’t the only one that made mistakes.” She picked at something on the back of the sofa. This was the part of Teri that had always attracted Dylan. She was always the first to admit fault and apologize if she’d played any part in the situation. It was a rare trait.

“What do plan on doing after hearing what I had to say?”

“I’ve been thinking about that. I liked what you said about Texas Instruments and law school. I think if we got our shit together and worked as a team we could give the kids a firm foundation and good start.”

“I absolutely agree.” The somber mood that had been weighing on him started to lift.

“I think if we stay together and not separate, we could accomplish so much more and give the kids a better and stable life. They didn’t ask to be born into this mess. We did this to them. It’ll take some time to get on our feet, but we’re stronger together. So, I vote to get ourselves established and get our kids raised before we go out on our own.” Teri’s tentative smile was genuine and it helped ease his heart.

“I was hoping you would feel that way. I’m not comfortable with what I told you. I just thought you deserved to know. I’m not ready to fully talk about me yet, but someday I will be.”

“I trust you’ll open up to me when the time comes,” Teri replied.

“I will. But until then, our family will be the only thing that matters. No more alcohol and definitely no more lies between us.”

“No more lies. Agreed. And since this is new territory for both of us, I guess we’ll have to figure this out as we go, right?”

“Yes. Everything we do from this point forward is for the betterment of our family.” He was so thankful Teri was taking this so well and on board with the plan. She had always been the level headed one. It took a lot to ruffle her feathers. That’s not saying she didn’t like to fight, because she did. But she always had this calmness about her that comforted him. Probably the main reason he’d been so drawn to her. He could honestly say, he couldn’t have chosen a better mother for his kids. This whole situation could have turned out badly, he was happy it hadn’t, he owed that to Teri.

“Agreed. And no more fighting. We’re better as friends than enemies.”

“Right.” Chloe’s little whimper cut off whatever else Teri planned to say. Before he knew it, Teri was up and on her feet, quickly trying to get to their little girl before she woke Chad. It didn’t work. Cate started to fuss and Chad began to cry right along with Chloe.

Teri got to their room just as Chloe made it to the door. “Did your diaper leak, sweetie?” she asked, hauling their little girl up on her hip. Dylan picked up Cate and started to burp her. No way would any of this be easy, but out of the cards they’d been dealt, this seemed to be the best hand. Dylan rose from the couch, patting Cate’s back as he made his way to Teri. Both kids were crying now. He didn’t see how Teri managed to take care of all three of them at the same time. She was just amazing like that. But if their family dynamics were going to change, he was going to have to become more hands on and there was nothing stopping him from starting today.

Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It's always a surprise to see what's coming next!

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it's true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women's hair!

Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life - I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations - regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal... I don't want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I'm going to tell you about Kindle.

I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I'll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died - weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn't have to be alone.

That time in my life was terrible. It's everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness - it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn't a time she wasn't there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It's its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn't be here today without her.

Blog Tour: Verite by Rachel Blaufeld

verite blog tour
verite cover

That’s me––Tingly Simmons––athlete, foreign-language major, professor lover, obsessed idiot girl. Definitely not a frat rat or sorority slut. I’ve never even played beer pong.

I ditched the vapid, soulless high-society life of Los Angeles for the promise of something more meaningful in rural Ohio. Accepting a track scholarship for college, I tried running my way to happiness, but instead I ended up sleeping with my French professor and falling head over heels for him.

When that relationship fell apart, so did I.

Barely hanging on by a thread and using the most absurd coping skills, I was determined to hide behind my past indiscretions. That was, until I met Tiberius Jones. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d learn the truth about love from a six-foot-five basketball player.

Wow, this story was an unexpected highlight of my reading week. Two people, who you could not find more opposite as far as their upbringing and culture, who just seem so right for each other.
Tingly (yep, that's her name) has made a lot of mistakes in her past and carries them around with her like a cloak.  She is trying to keep her head down and just blend in quietly now that she is back at college.  She has a very disfunctional, estranged relationship with her family and is pretty much alone in life.
"I was hungry for contact.  I'd starved myself for so long." - Tingly
Tiberious is a beautiful young man, in every way.  He has a sweet disposition and is very intuitive.  He is a basketball player so very tall and muscular in physique.  So yeah, not bad to look at either.  He is not like the other guys in his team who always seem to be looking for the next girl they can hook up with.
He sees in Tingly what she can't see in herself.  She is not like the other girls, who only want to know him because of who he is and what they can get out of it.  He isn't interested in her past mistakes.  He is intrigued by her and cannot stop thinking about her.
'Leave you past where it belongs.... in the dirt.  If you're gonna run, run to me,
to your future,  to being happy.' - Tiberious
Tingly continually doubts herself and puts up walls faster than a master builder.  She thinks she is not good enough for him and sooner or later he will realise it too.  Her self-talk is her downfall. Tiberious had no idea he was looking for a girl like Tingly until he found her, when you least expect it, you find your person, the one.
"You can push and shove and run and whatever other stupid shit you want,
but I'm coming for you." - Tiberious
Tingly feels so much uncertainty and she just needs to embrace it, trust in Tiberious and see herself through his eyes.  I loved how Tiberious was so patient with Tingly and let her figure things out at her own pace.  Nothing was rushed, it just slowly grew between them and was just so damn sweet to read.
I loved this story so much.  It was a breath of fresh air, completely unique story and I could not put it down until I was done.
I give this 4 stars
'Everything was better when it meant something'
He stood there patiently, grinning as he waited for me to move through the doorway or answer him, and pinned me with his unusual blue eyes, so pale in his handsome face against his deep brown skin. His gaze seared right through me, just like it had earlier, before dinner in the courtyard.

Completely unnerved, I didn’t respond. His size was daunting, his large frame loomed over the threshold, and I was struck speechless. Uncertain whether it was his obvious good looks that threw me, or the overtly friendly wide grin on display, I simply stood there for a moment, trying to figure out his angle.

As I took in his long athletic shorts, tight gray athletic hoodie, and the pair of spiky Air Jordan slides on his feet, his left eyebrow cocked up at me like I was the next sideshow. Well, I’d already played that act countless times at home, including but not limited to last year when I was caught with the professor’s dick deep inside me. Now I was all about slipping under the radar, getting by silently and with little fuss.

“Hey, you okay?” he asked, his deep voice interrupting my thoughts. “I’m talking to you . . . you coming in? I’m over here holding the door.”

His pale blue eyes scanned my brown ones as his smile faded. I imagined him knowing who I was and what I did, perhaps mentally undressing me one piece of clothing at a time, wanting to give the slut a whirl.

Oh God, was my name being passed around—again?

Self-disgust consumed me, spurring me to action. “Um, yeah. I am,” I answered, averting my gaze as I shifted my backpack up on my shoulder and stomped through the doorway.

I turned ever so slightly to witness him ducking to fit through the doorframe. It was crazy how insanely tall this guy was. Obviously, he was a basketball player, probably with a huge ego to boot.

I managed to mutter, “Thanks,” as I swept past him, and the door clanged shut behind us.

“Bad day?” he called after me.

What was with him being all smiling and friendly? Was he for real, or was he trying to bait me? I couldn’t help my self-doubt; skepticism was woven so deeply into my personality, I questioned everyone’s motives.

“Bad life,” I tossed back without thinking. For some reason, I felt the need to share my feelings with this stranger, and it scared the shit out of me.

So I did what came naturally to me—I ran. As I sprinted toward the elevator, I caught him heading toward the staircase out of the corner of my eye. I got off on my floor feeling relieved until I heard a heavy pair of footsteps coming around the corner.

Shit.
