Giveaway & Review: And With Madness Comes the Light (EIT Book 6.5) by Karina Halle

REVIEW

The Experiment in Terror (EIT) series by Karina Halle is has become my all time favorite series ever. If you haven't read it, you need to! Like, right now! I have never read anything like EIT and find it next to impossible to categorize it into a specific genre. It is smart, witty, suspenseful, addicting and will have you falling in love in no time. The main characters of this series are Perry Palomino and Dex Foray. They meet in an abandoned lighthouse one fateful night and end up starting an internet show (hence the name Experiment in Terror :P) about all the creepy haps they can stumble upon. Although this series is titled after the name of the internet show they work on, it really is more of a character study of these two fabulously fucked up individuals. The reason I can say this is my absolute favorite series, is because it is about my absolute two favorite characters ever. Apart, Dex and Perry are likable and interesting characters, but put these two together and it's magic. The wit, banter, dialogue, and sexual tension between these two is off the charts. I have never been so invested and addicted to a series in my life. 

The most recent addition to the EIT family is a novella (#6.5) And With Madness Comes the Light (AWMCTL)…

Because this series may be new to many of you, I am going to try to keep my review as spoiler free as possible! J In And With Madness Comes the Light we are lucky enough to get another peak into the twisted mind of Dex Foray. The Dex Files (EIT # 5.7) is one of my favorites of this series, it’s when we got our first glimpse into Dex’s head, so I was BEYOND excited to dive into AWMCTL and get more of his POV.

Due to when this book takes place, there is a different feel from Dex. He is down in the dumps and isn’t in a great place.

“That was the ball-sucking thing about heartache. It didn’t follow logic or physics or any sort of rules. It wasn’t that you started off in absolute grief and then slowly got better. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, from hate to love and back again. Each day was different. It was a roll of the dice, a turn of the cards."

There is a lot of interaction between Dex and secondary characters, Rebecca and Dean in this one. Even through the heartache and depression, the trademark Dex humor, wit, and snark is still very present. The conversations been him and his friends were hysterical.

“Shit. Dean and I had gone from workout buddies to acting like a bunch of overanalysing pussies. Next thing you knew, we’d start having our periods at the same time.”

“Frankly, I don’t think I could hang out with you if you weren’t the vice type of guy.”
“Well then, you’ll be pleased to know that I’m still drinking and I’m still wanking to porn.”
“That’s my boy,” LOL! <3 Rebecca!

Also, a new more vulnerable, open, honest side of Dex is revealed (Hello, Dex 2.0!). I didn’t think it was possible to love this man any more than I already did, but this book proved that my Dex-love knows no bounds.

This book helped to fill in a lot of blanks and get a better, deeper understanding of Dex as a person. He once again had me laughing my ass off, clutching my chest in agony, doing happy dances, and finally sobbing like a baby.                                                         

I highlighted over 70 passages in this book, and let me remind you it was a NOVELLA, not a full-length novel. I think that right there speaks for itself. If you haven’t had a chance to check this series out, what are you waiting for?! The first one, Darkhouse is free on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. They get better and better as you go and will continue to surprise you. Check them out and if you are updating on Goodreads, chances are I’m already be stalking your updates! J

Needing to escape New York and the pain from her past. Norah Ross decides to move and finish her last semester at McLaren University in Morewell. Now reunited with her best friend Josh who attends the same school. Josh wants in to the "Lappell" a secret society with "prestige."
And he is now in the process of making that happen.

Clint is tall, blonde, rich and gorgeous. The attraction is so palpable they can feel it in the air. So when Clint tries to get her to not only leave the party early but to leave solo minus Josh. It sends Norah on high alert.

She goes looking for Josh and what she discovers leaves her UTTERLY SPEECHLESS


It does not take long before Clint asks Norah out. Once they begin to date she quickly realizes that Clint is more so living the life set before him. Opposed to living the life he would have chosen for himself. When the Lappell take an interest in Norah she becomes very vocal about the fact that she does not return that interest. This causes a small rift between her and Clint.

Lies, deceit and old skeletons from the past begin to put Norah in a dangerous position.


Norah has secrets and she begins to wonder if she can trust Clint with them. 

Would he still love her after she tells him the truth?

"Nothing you can say will change how I feel about you.." ~Clint

And that may be true. The problem is Clint has secrets too and when they come to light Norah faces the betrayal head on. Josh, her ever present back bone takes the opportunity to let her know that he will always be there for her. Making it crystal clear that he loves and still wants her.

Suddenly everything becomes eclipsed by a face from her past. Samuel. A face she thought she would never see again.


My Thoughts
I really enjoyed this book. I loved Norah. I loved her style she was fashionable, artistic, intelligent and knew how to use a gun. She adapted to her surroundings easily and was never afraid to say what was on her mind. Needless to say she was my kind of girl. 
I thought the writing was good as well. The book kept a good pace and held a mystery within the story lines up to the last page. Also lot's of twist and turns. Some I saw coming and some I did not.

Dear Readers
I gave this book 4 stars because it constantly kept me guessing. You start the book thinking it's going in one direction up until the rode splits. Then you find yourself going in multiple directions. It also included a very HOT sex scene involving a naked Norah, a naked Clint, paint and a canvas.

My Ratings

Writing Style- Good
Plot/Storyline- Sexy, with a love square featuring 1 girl and 3 guys
Steam Factor- Medium/Moderately Steamy
Overall- I enjoyed it!!! Check it out!!

Review: Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress #4) by Jeaniene Frost

A different vibe for this series, but it totally worked for me! I loved it!

Destined for an Early Grave took a (slight) step away from action packed fight scenes galore and a step toward dealing with some much deeper issues. The book starts off with Cat and Bones getting some much needed R&R. Trouble soon presents itself when Master vampire, Gregor aka "the Dreamsnatcher" starts inhabiting Cat's dreams and threatens to literally snatch her from Bones.The stress of dealing with Gregor brings some series issues between Bones and Cat to surface, which ends up fueling some emotional fights and one pretty crazy physical smackdown. 

I gave an incredulous glance down at his finger, still pressed into my chest. “Get that off me or I’ll knock it off.” His brow arched in open dare. “Take your best shot, luv.” You asked for it. My fist connected with his jaw. Bones ducked before I could land another one, green flashing out of his eyes. “Is that all you’ve got? Not nearly good enough.” And he jabbed me in the chest again. Oh, it’s on now, honey!

The issues between Cat and Bones go on for a large majority of the book. It is a change of pace for the series because Cat and Bones aren't working together against outside forces, planning secret missions and battling it out as a team like in the past. Things have come between them and they are rocked to the very foundation of their relationship. At times it was depressing and their lack of communication got on my nerves. But mostly I was just really nervous about whether or not they would be able to overcome their differences. With that said, I kind of liked the conflict between them, I felt like some things needed to be hashed out and it added a more real element to their relationship. 

What also worked really well to balance out the depressing state of Cat and Bones's relationship were the secondary characters. There were a few that really shined during this book. I really took notice of Spade in this one for his constant unwavering loyalty to Bones and how we always seemed to be pulling for him and Cat as a couple. Vlad was also great in this one and ends up being someone Cat turns to for comfort. Their friendship is one that I find kind of odd, but in a perfect sort of way that really intrigued me. Of course the book is kept interesting with laugh out loud moments and that trademark humor that this series has always had.

“Hey, Walks Like An Egyptian, how about for once you drop the formal stuff and talk like you live in the twenty-first century?” “The shit’s gonna splatter, start buggin’, yo,” Mencheres responded instantly. I stared at him, then burst out laughing.

Even though this was more emotionally heavy than past books, there are still some exciting action scenes and steaminess. And it wouldn't be complete without a few shocking revelations and plot twists. Most of which I did not see coming. What a great installment to this series! So good!

This is a novella, therefore VERY short. So, that be said, my review is going to be a quick one, as there is not much I can say without giving it all away.

I have to be honest, I am not a huge fan of short stories. They work if attached to a series but when it is a stand alone like this, not so much. I like being able to establish some sort of connection to the characters. That is just not possible in this book.

I know Cora and Blake broke up and that is about it. I don't get a glimpse into their relationship. I don't know if things were good or was this something she should have seen coming. And when he comes back, it is only for a brief moment where once again we get no explanations as to why things ended.

We barely get a look into her new relationship. The timeline jumps from their first date to two months later. 

If you are a fan of novellas, then I highly recommend this book. Even though it did not work for me, the writing is great and this author has great potential. I would definitely read A full length novel from her!

I am not sure if i can truly express with words how much this book affected me. My emotions were all over the place while reading it. I cried a lot through out. There were even a few moments that had me laughing. But most of the time my heart was hurting. It was the ending though, well it made everything, the loss, the heartache, the tears,everything, worth it.

This book isn't about Kane. It isn't about Rhye. Not even really JT, Cal or Branch. This is Jay's book. It is one of her self discovery. It is about her learning to love herself again. And how to let the past go along with all the things she can not change, so she can move on with her life. And more importantly, it is about her finding a reason towant to live for no one but herself.

I have to be honest, after the way things were left at the end of Ruining Me, I wasn't sure what would become of Jay. How can you go through that and come back from it? You immediately can see when starting Ruining You, she still is not in a good place. She has shut herself off from everyone who loves her. But then she meets Eli. He comes into her life right when she needed him to.

"Don't let go now, Jay. One by one, place each piece of your soul back together, but this time, make it stronger. Close your eyes and do it."

He bring her back from the brink. He helps her face things she has been avoiding. And it is with his help that she is finally ready to go home to face everyone and everything. Once there, Jay continues the process of healing. In no way is the road ahead easy for her. There is still so much for her to work through. It is the demons that she refuses to face that continue to hold her hostage. Once she is able to do that, and only then, can she truly live her life again.

"life is not always rainbows and that there will be days of darkness, but if you hold on long enough, the sun will come out."

So, whether you are Team Rhye or Team Kane, the ending is just as it should be. Because the one we should have been rooting for all along is happy and more importantly wants to live. Team Jay!
