Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: Breaking Nova by Jessica Sorensen

Breaking Nova (Nova Series, Book #1)
By: Jessica Sorensen

Nova Reed used to have dreams-of becoming a famous drummer, of marrying her true love. But all of that was taken away in an instant. Now she's getting by as best she can, though sometimes that means doing things the old Nova would never do. Things that are slowly eating away at her spirit. Every day blends into the next . . . until she meets Quinton Carter. His intense, honey brown eyes instantly draw her in, and he looks just about as broken as she feels inside.

Quinton once got a second chance at life-but he doesn't want it. The tattoos on his chest are a constant reminder of what he's done, what he's lost. He's sworn to never allow happiness into his life . . . but then beautiful, sweet Nova makes him smile. He knows he's too damaged to get close to her, yet she's the only one who can make him feel alive again. Quinton will have to decide: does he deserve to start over? Or should he pay for his past forever?

Breaking Nova is one of those books that draws you into the story from the first words on the page. You will know immediately that this story is going to be dark and deep. There are events that keep being eluded to but you never get the full picture. And at some point, you wonder if you even want to know everything that has happened. Because if they have left these characters this broken, what is it going to do to you, the reader?

Past events in Nova's life has left her dealing with OCD. She needs to know the exact number of steps to get from one side of the room to other. How many seconds those steps take. It is her way of burying the pain she doesn't want to face of things that happened which she had no control of. From the very first chapter, I wondered how long it would take before she finally broke.

All the other characters you meet that are connected with Nova's life are just extremely messed up. You get a sense they are all running from demons in their past. The way they currently choose to deal with it is by getting stoned out of their minds. Personally, i didn't much like any of them at this point so I am hoping since this is a series, that we will get more of all their stories in future books. Or at least more of Delilah and Quinton's. I think it would better help me understand the choices they made in this book that drove me CRAZY!!

Overall, I would say it was a good read. It deals with VERY heavy subject matter, so it is a bit on the depressing side. There is a ton of drug use by all characters in the story. The only character I really felt a connection with was Nova. Everybody else just pissed me off.

I will end my review by saying there IS a cliffhanger!  And not just your run of the mill "oh, I can't wait to hear more about these characters" type ending. It is more like a "WTF! How can she end it like that? How I am supposed to wait until February for the next book?!?!?" ending.
