Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: Three Broken Promises by Monica Murphy

Three Broken Promises (Drew + Fable Series, Book #3)
By: Monica Murphy

Breakout New Adult sensation Monica Murphy returns with a hot new contemporary romance—a heartfelt story of second chances, forgiveness, and redemption.

Commitment. That’s what I really want from Colin. Ever since my brother, Danny, died in Iraq, Colin’s done so much to help me, including giving me a job at his popular restaurant so I can leave my crappy waitressing job at the strip joint. But lying in bed with him every night to comfort him from his horrible nightmares isn’t enough anymore. I know he feels guilty about Danny’s death, about not going to Iraq, but I can’t keep living this double life.

I love him desperately, but he’s got so many demons, and if he can’t open up to me now, then he’ll never be the real partner I need him to be. I gave him a month, and now I’m out of here. If he truly loves me like he says, he knows where to find me.

Three Broken Promises is Jen and Colin's story. We met them previously in the first two books of the series. They were both characters that peaked my interest and made me want to know more about them. So, when I heard they were getting their own book I was thrilled.

But now, I am honestly kind of conflicted. Did I love it as much as I did the first two books in this series? No. But I was in like with it. The writing style is still marvelous (which I never doubted it would be since it is Monica Murphy after all!). And there WERE aspects of the story I thought were good (the steamy parts especially were yummy *wink wink*). And then there were the parts that had me wanting to slap some people around.

I did love the chemistry between Colin and Jen. I knew it would be intense and I was not disappointed! It wasn't just a physical connection though, it was an emotional one as well. But at the same time, that is one of the major things that frustrated me most about this book! Colin SO obviously was in love with Jen and wanted to take things to the next level with her. But doesn't because he believes he isn't good enough. And when she practically throws herself at him, he retreats! Talk about a blow to a girl's ego, geez!

And some of Jen's decisions seemed rather naive. I understood her need to be independent and prove she was capable of standing on her own two feet. But her plan was not very well thought out. One thing I will give her props for is being the one to have the balls to voice what she wanted when it came to the storm that was brewing between her and Colin. She did put herself out there with him several times despite her fear of rejection.

So, the question is, can these two get their act together and figure out what is staring them both in the face before it is too late?? Or will Colin's stubbornness and Jen's need for freedom cost them the very thing they both want more than anything, each other?? Well, I can't spoil the ending for you, so you'll just have to read to see if these two are smart enough to realize what they have before it's too late!

Overall, it a good read, though a bit predictable. Colin and Jen just didn't win me over the way Drew and Fable did. That might be a bit unfair of me to compare the two couples, but I can't help it! I needed a marshmallow moment that left me feeling all gooey about these lovebirds. And it just didn't happen for me. Definitely a book I still recommend picking up and giving a shot, especially if you already a fan of this series. And even though this book didn't steal my heart the way the others did, I am still riding up front on the Monica Murphy bandwagon!!

  1. My favorite thing about One Week Girlfriend is how these two people from very different worlds found each other and fell in love. And they have their own little inside jokes, which are just so cute!

  2. I haven't read the series yet so I don't know how to answer to the question. I'm hoping I can find time to read it soon...now maybe summer break...to read it. I keep seeing review of the series on the blogs I visit though and I do want to give it a shot.
