My Thoughts
**ARC provided by author for honest review**
Sometimes, I think I may get a glimpse of what it must be like to be a writer. I read a book and am left with all these thoughts swirling around in my head and have to figure out a way to put them on paper. That is where the glimpse ends though. I am not a writer by any stretch of the imagination. Because a true author has a way of turning all those thoughts into magical words that create a story that suck us, the readers, into their world. And for me, this is one of those books.
The author has written the book alternating between present and past. We get glimpses of things that Blake remembers about that night and things that happened before. But how accurate can the memory of a then 4 year old Blake be? It is almost like we are being given pieces of a puzzle. But we are only getting the outter edges. Even at the end of the book, there is still a big gaping hole left in the middle of pieces the author is withholding.
From the first chapter I was engrossed in the story. I couldn't believe that this poor little girl had experienced something so terrible. How could this happen and those responsible not be held accountable? As we begin to get more and more of those pieces of the puzzle, I started to have suspicions about who could be involved in and why. Some things are cleared up by the end but there are still a ton of questions!
In the midst of this search for the truth, we also get a love story. Cole has loved Blake from the beginning. But their relationship is a rocky one to say the least. The emotional turmoil they put themselves through over the span of 7+ years is almost painful to read at times. How can a love as true as theirs cause them so much pain? I understood some of the decisions that were made. Others just left me shaking my head. But trust me when I say Cole alone is worth reading the book!!
The ending was frustrating to say the least. But I figured it would be. As I have said in other reviews, cliffhangers seem to be the norm now (I am beginning to think that all authors have taken an oath to drivers their readers insane with waiting for more!). But even with that being said, this book is definitely worth the read. I just hope we do to have that long of a wait for more of Blake's story!
