Note to Self
Love is patient; love is kind.
Love doesn't boast or brag.
There's no arrogance in love;
it's never rude, crude, or indecent-it's not self absorbed.
Love isn't easily upset.
Love doesn't tally wrongs.
Love trusts, hopes, and endures no matter what.
Love will never become obsolete.
I'll fight for her.

Thief
Caleb Drake never got over his first love. Not when he got married. Not when she got married. When life suddenly comes full circle Caleb must decide how how far he is willing to go to get the aloof and alluring Olivia Kaspen back. But for every action in life there is a consequence, and soon Caleb finds out that sometimes love comes at an unbearably high price.
*WARNING*
If you have not read The Opportunist or Dirty Red (books one and two of this series) my review WILL contain spoilers!
You know those people who go to the back of the book first to see if they will get the ending they want? The ones who are just too damn impatient to read the book like a normal person and experience it the way the author intended? Yeah, they totally annoy me too.
And guess what?
I am one of those people! Or at least I was for this book.
I know, I know. I shouldn't have done it. And in my defense I did only read the first sentence and stopped. And truly that one liner did nothing to help ease me concerns about how this book would end. So, it doesn't count right?
Well, after the close call of cheating I jumped right into the book the way I was supposed to, from the beginning. And all I can say is.....
I forgot how much I love the angst and pure torture of this series. No other author has the ability to make you love a book that turns you inside out, so much. That alone makes me a Tarryn Fisher groupie for life!
In Thief, we finally get to hear from Caleb. And not only do we get him in current day but also from the past. We are taken all the way back to the first time he sees Olivia standing under the tree. I loved knowing what he was feeling and thinking during so many of those pivotal moments of their relationship. It helped understand the dynamic of them so much better. And how a lot of the pain they caused one another could have been avoided.
The chapters are set up in a way where you get one in present day and the next one would be the past. It worked like this for most of the book (with a few surprises thrown in!). A few times this was beyond frustrating because you would feel like you were left with a little cliffhanger at the end of a present chapter. And you had to read through the past to get back to what the hell was going on! Again, I would expect nothing less from a Tarryn Fisher book.
As a whole, Thief kept me on the edge all the way until the last word written. Nothing happens the way you think it will. i know about half way through, I begin to question if loving each other was truly enough for them to overcome all the damage that had been and continued to be done. So many conspired to keep Caleb and Olivia apart, including themselves. There were so many times i wanted to shake every single one of them, especially Olivia!
But things worked out as they were meant to and the ending was perfectly imperfect. Just like Olivia and Caleb. It was enough to reduce me to tears. Not only for the ending of the book, but of the series as well. I will miss Caleb and Olivia but very much look forward to reading something new from Tarryn!
Lastly, I rarely include quotes in my reviews because I don't like to spoil things for anyone. But this one is my favorite of the whole entire book, so I just had to include it!
“I want your babies, and your anger, and your cold blue eyes … “ I choke on my words and I am the one to look away. I bring my gaze back to her face and realize that if I can’t convince her now, I’m never going to be able to. “I want to go on anniversary dinners with you, I want to wrap Christmas presents with you. I want to fight with you about stupid things and then hold you down in my bed and make it up to you. I want to have more cake batter fights and camping trips. I want your future, Olivia. Please come back to me.”
