The Moon Dwellers (The Dwellers #1) By: David Estes

Goodreads Summary
In a desperate attempt to escape destruction decades earlier, humankind was forced underground, into the depths of the earth, creating a new society called the Tri-Realms.

After her parents and sister are abducted by the Enforcers, seventeen-year-old Adele, a member of the middle-class moon dwellers, is unjustly sentenced to life in prison for her parents' crimes of treason.

Against all odds, Adele must escape from the Pen and find her family, while being hunted by a deranged, killing machine named Rivet, who works for the President. She is helped by two other inmates, Tawni and Cole, each of whom have dark secrets that are better left undiscovered. Other than her friends, the only thing she has going for her is a wicked roundhouse kick and two fists that have been well-trained for combat by her father.

At the other end of the social spectrum is Tristan, the son of the President and a sun dweller. His mother is gone. He hates his father. Backed by only his servant and best friend, Roc, he leaves his lavish lifestyle in the Sun Realm, seeking to make something good out of his troubled life.

When a war breaks out within the Tri-Realms, Tristan is thrust into the middle of a conflict that seems to mysteriously follow Adele as she seeks to find her family and uncover her parents true past.

In their world, someone must die…
My Thoughts
**copy of book provided by author for honest review**I have got to be completely honest here. When I was asked to read this I was not 100% sure I would like it. This is not a book I would typically pick up on my own. But sometimes you have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone and when you do you just might be surprised. I know I sure as with this book and in a really good way!!

The year is 499 PM (Post-Meteor).

After a meteor hit earth, the only survivors were those lucky enough to have been chosen to live in underground caverns before it struck. And so from the moment on time began to be counted as Post-Metoer. And now many years later, life has been divided into three realms (aka the Tri-Realms), the Star-Realm (home of the rich and powerful), the Moon-Realm (what is to be considered the middle class reside here) and lastly the Star-Realm ( this is home to the poorest of them all).

It is the middle of the night and Adele's home is being raided by the Enforcers. She watches as they ransack her home and eventually take her parents. Overcome by anger, she attacks one of the enforcers. Although she manages to take him down she is unable to fight them all and is taken down herself by a taser. She is carted off and taken to the Pen (aka jail) to serve out a life sentence that has been imposed for her parents' crime of treason. It is there that she meets Twani and Cole. They become fast friends and quickly come up with a plan to escape. Although there are some mishaps, they manage to get away and begin the journey of locating Adele's sister (who was taken to an orphanage) and her parents.

Then there is Tristan. He is the son of the king President of the Tri-Realms. He hates everything his father stands for. But despite that hate he knows he must pick and chose his battles. Which is why he is currently in the Moon Realm on some stupid parade float passing in front of the Pen when he sees her. She is sitting out in the yard and even though there is quite a distance between them he feels some strange connection. Heck he even knows her eye color although that shouldn't be possible as he is too far away. Determined to find out more about the weird reaction he has to this girl, he decides to runaway with his servant/friend Roc. Little does Tristan know all hell is about to break loose in the Moon Realm.

I usually struggle with books that switch between the heroine/hero's POV. but it worked really well in this book. I felt like I was on two seperate journeys, one with Adele and her friends and another with Tristan and Roc. Both being equally as intense and intriguing as the other. You are left hoping they will both find what they are looking for. Will Adele find her parents and sister? Will they all still be alive? Are Cole and Twani telling Adele everything? What is the connection between Tristan and Adele? You will get some answers but there are also many questions remaining. This is a series after all!

I can't wait to read the next book in the series..
